MATE’s Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety Retains Its MTA Centre of Excellence Status

In September 2026, the Research Site Accreditation Council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) extended the prestigious MTA Centre of Excellence designation awarded to the Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety.

The Institute was previously awarded the MTA Centre of Excellence title for a five-year period in recognition of its outstanding scientific achievements, becoming the only institute at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) to receive this distinction.

The designation was originally due to expire in 2027, and its renewal would normally have required a new application. However, in light of the planned restructuring affecting universities and the HUN-REN research network, the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences decided to extend the designation for all existing holders until 30 June 2030, without requiring a new application.

The Institute greatly values the professional recognition represented by the MTA Centre of Excellence designation. The renewed status serves as an important acknowledgement of the high quality of its research activities and the scientific achievements of its researchers.
