Research Group on Fish Welfare and Security of Fish Production - MATE Research
Research Group on Fish Welfare and Security of Fish Production

The overall objective of the Research Group is to improve fish welfare and security of fish production in aquaculture. This will be targeted by conducting research on fish reproduction through gamete research, improved induced spawning and surrogate technology as well as nutrition technology through testing alternative feed sources. Outcomes will be assessed by reproductive performance tests, fish and system microbiota and stress research.
The originality of the research lies within the One health approach to fish farming that takes into account the external factors such as the systems that fish are kept in and the internal factors of fish welfare (reproductive performance, intestinal and gonadal microbiota, stress parameters) that allow for the production of heathier and more secure fish products. The holistic approach of the project to aquaculture production contributes to its ambitious nature and innovative aspect.
