QS experts held a workshop on MATE's global role

Another international event related to the university ranking took place on 25 February 2025 at the Buda Campus. The theme of the meeting was an overview of the University's Global Engagement. The presentations were given by the staff of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the world's largest global higher education network connecting universities, business schools and students.

Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of MATE, welcomed the international experts, project leader and consultant Mariuxi Alvarado Sanchez and senior consultant Alice Wei. The Rector and Dr. Zoltan Kovacs, Head of Research Strategy, expressed their satisfaction and pleasure with the cooperation so far and thanked the experts for their contribution to MATE's progress towards becoming the leading agricultural university in Central Europe and to further strengthening its position in the ranking.

At the workshop following the Rector's meeting, to which the University's departments and staff involved in ranking activities were invited, QS representatives spoke about the University's international relations, the importance of international students and colleagues, and research collaborations, among other things, based on publicly available (publication) data (Scopus) and contacts.

This was the 5th and the last workshop of its kind to support the ranking activities of our University, which was organised in the framework of the strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and QS to enhance the global recognition and performance of Hungarian universities in the year 2024/25. The workshops aimed to deepen the understanding of the QS ranking methodology, to increase the visibility of Hungarian Universities and to analyse and discuss topics that support the University's ranking progress, such as the QS ranking methodology, University performance analysis, academic and employer reputation or research development. In addition to discussing the University's strengths and weaknesses relevant to the ranking and its opportunities for improvement, the experts also highlighted the continued importance of "Agriculture and Forestry" as a priority area for strengthening MATE's ranking position and increasing its visibility, an area in which the University has already made significant progress.

The QS experts expressed that although the cooperation in this form has ended, they will be available in the future to answer questions on the analyses presented and other issues, and this opportunity will continue to support the University's ranking development activities.
