Introducing the Research Exellence Programme

Since its foundation, MATE has paid particular attention to supporting and promoting scientific work. In addition to ongoing initiatives, the Research Excellence Programme was launched in pilot form in June 2023 to recognise and further strengthen internationally outstanding scientific achievements.

The pilot scheme involved 100 colleagues from 18 institutions, invited on the basis of their outstanding research achievements and the recommendation of their Institute Director. The broad involvement of the institutes will help to ensure that the professional content of the programme has an impact beyond the participants.

Programme participants have made individual commitments to further strengthen their research performance, which they have been supported to achieve through a variety of support schemes, such as individualised, data-driven scientific trend analysis, reduced workload, internationally competitive publication and conference support, and knowledge transfer workshop opportunities.

A key objective of the programme is to strengthen MATE's embeddedness among institutions at the international forefront, to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge transfer within the international research community. Based on the lessons learnt from the pilot, the University will re-launch the Programme in early 2024, with a team led by  Dr. Zoltán Kovács, appointed by the Rector to execute the University's  Science Strategy.
