Fishing Competition 20th September 2024

The 2024/25 academic year has officially started for the Agricultural Water Management Students' Special College. Their opening event was the traditional "Fishing Competition," a teacher-student contest aimed at team-building, held every semester. The venue for the competition was graciously provided by Dr. Gergő Gyalog, Director of MATE's AKI Fisheries Research Center. The event also featured an expert lecture by Dr. Zoltán Vitál, Senior Research Fellow at MATE's AKI Fisheries Research Center, titled "Fishing for Non-Native Fish Species."

Following the first round of the competition, campus staff member János Czesznak, his son Dávid Czesznak, and their friend János Molnár enriched the event with a demonstration of traditional Hungarian whip cracking. The students had the opportunity to try their hand at using the traditional whip and engaging in other heritage-preserving horseman games.

By the end of the afternoon round, the results were in. In accordance with the rules of the fishing competition, a special prize was awarded for the largest fish, which was claimed by Dr. Károly Bodnár. The winner of the fishing competition and the proud recipient of this year’s newly established "MEVISZ Challenge Cup" for catching the most fish was none other than our professional leader, Dr. Zoltán Futó.

We look forward to the spring round! Our goal is for the challenge cup to land in the hands of a student this year.
